ALEXIS GIDEON’s small screenprint shows a link to a fantastical stop motion animated video, accompanied by a sound track performed by the artist. Created for the CSA 2014 full share.
Gideon creates multi-disciplinary works that examine culture and society by reinventing the form of the traditional traveling story-song. Drawing from literature, music, film, painting, and sculpture, his stop-motion animated video operas are performed live, by himself, alongside video projection of the film. Gideon's work has examined themes as diverse as Hungarian mythology, the 16th century Chinese epic novel The Journey to the West, the stories of the early 20th century Irish writer Lord Dunsany, and the dream-time experiments by aeronautical physicist John William Dunne.
